ARTICLE: Drum Roll Please, Who’s It Gonna Be?

Bloodstock Festival recently announced rather cryptically about their third headlining act, that it would be announced at 6pm on 6th June:

DIO DISCIPLES to honour Ronnie James Dio as the Friday Special Guests! Pythia, crimes of passion and primitai join Sophie Lancaster Stage …….. THIRD HEADLINER to be announced 06/06 at 6PM!!!! The Saturday night at Bloodstock will see the festivals most prestigious and exciting headliner to date, doing something very very special at their first ever UK festival headline slot !! All will be revealed 6pm on 6th June !!!!!!

Since then many people have been debating heatedly (as only metalheads on the internet can do) about who’s going to fill the slot. Frankly, the line-up so far suits me very well*, but I can’t help but also be interested in whom Bloodstock are going to tap on the shoulder. I’ve done a bit of trawling through the internet and have summarized before a few options of who it may or may not be.

Who it WON’T be:

1. Slayer
They are playing in London at the same time as Bloodstock is on.
2. Iron Maiden
They are playing in the US at the same time as BOA is on, and they’ve headlined Reading Festival before amongst others.
3. King Diamond
As much as I’d love to see the man in the flesh, he’s confirmed he’s only playing two festivals (Hellfest and Sweden Rock Festival)
4. Venom
As interesting as that would be, they’d need to get most of the original line-up to justify a headlining slot.
5. Rammstein
Some called for Rammstein, but they’ve headlined Sonisphere already. Sorry, guys.

Who it MAY be:
1. Manowar
They’ve never headlined a UK festival to my knowledge, and they’re a fairly big announcement. The only thing that makes me doubtful is the ‘666’ time announcement.
2. Megadeth
Again, a huge band who (as far as I know) have never headlined a UK festival except as The Big Four for Sonisphere.

Please, comment below with your thoughts as to who it may be, and see you in the pit from 8th-12th August!

On a more general note, here is the line-up so far, the bold ones have piqued my interest and italicized ones I’ve seen before. Any other recommendations would be more than welcome:

Ronnie James Dio Stage (main)

Dio Disciples
Sepultura (report here)
Iced Earth
Grand Magus
Lock Up
Alice Cooper
Dimmu Borgir
Paradise Lost
The Black Dahlia Murder
Corrosion of Conformity

Sophie Lancaster Stage (second)

Eastern Front
Sight of Emptiness
Commander in Chief
Orange Goblin
Ancient Ascendant
Rising Dream
Infernal Tenebra
Anaal Nathrakh
Demonic Resurrection
Crimes of Passion

N.B. Sorry for the table not aligning, if anyone has any idea how to correct it, then please contact me!

  1. Top blog!

The best rumour that I’ve heard for this mystery headliner is one that I don’t believe for a second – for hell would have to become distinctly chilly for it to happen.

A reunited Pantera with Zakk Wylde filling in for Dimebag.

Not going to happen, I suspect, but the possibilty is fun to imagine…

    • Cheers for the compliment!

I wish I could believe the rumor my friend, but the idea blows my mind too much. This is why entertaining possibilities is a dangerous business…cool wish though, one can dream 😉
