INTRODUCING…: EDGE OF PARADISE

For once a female-fronted metal band that isn’t in the gothic scene! Edge Of Paradise are an industrial heavy metal/hard rock duo (supplemented by guest musicians) from LA, formed by vocalist/keyboardist Margarita Monet and guitarist Dave Bates, and they released their début album Mask last year. Featuring the likes of Tony Franklin and Gregg Bissonette (both with an impressive resumé of guested releases), it promises to be a rocking rollercoaster of a ride, and certainly the video released for the title track delivers on that front.

I was just contacted by Bates via e-mail about a contest they’re running, where they’re giving away one of the following prizes:
1st – Autographed RG 7-String Electric Ibanez
2nd – Morpheus DropTune Pedal
3rd – Autographed EOP Package
(CD “Mask”, EOP T-Shirt, EOP Picks)
The catch? Upload a version of one of two Edge Of Paradise songs, creatively re-interpreted. For more information, go here. They’ve put backing tracks up of the two tracks, so make a video with yourself playing the track and upload it as a video response to this video.

For those who are unable or unwilling to enter the contest, I leave you with news that Edge Of Paradise have a new single due out next month, produced by a famous producer who’s worked with Metallica, Ozzy and WASP. Stay tuned, people.

  2. This is some great stuff! Easy to listen to but doesn’t insult my intelligence. The vocalist works great with the music too, it’s nice to see female vocalists outside of the goth scene. It should happen more often. I think I will be checking out their new album when it hits, keep us posted!
Also, since it just popped into my head and we’re on the topic of female vocalists, check out a band called Battle Beast, the vocalist in that band has got some pipes on her.

    • Yeah, it was a surprise hearing about the band using a heavy metal female singer that wasn’t Doro or someone of her ilk. The album is out already, grab it here on iTunes!

Also, thanks for posting that Battle Beast video, I agree with one of the top comments saying this sounds like if Dio were female…holy crap her pipes!

Not only are they not in the goth scene, but they are American and aren’t too poppy-sounding. I think I read about this band somewhere, but never followed up, so thank you for sharing. It’s good to hear a straightforward female fronted band…and they are from the U.S., so it’s nice to know America is not all about top-40 pop rock bullshit.
